Chinese State Circus come to town

A breathtaking fusion of precision acrobatics, Shaolin martial arts, dazzling circus skills, colourful characters from Peking Opera, physical theatre and drama choreographed to an original music score, MULAN is based on the legend of one of China’s greatest heroines. Although the tales of how a peasant girl led an army to save her nation from invasion have spread over the world in poems, songs, books and films, this is their first incarnation in the all-action world of international circus.

They are appeaaring at Lytham St Anne’s Fylde RUFC Woodlands Memorial Ground from Wednesday 9th June to Saturday 12th June

Cleaning Up Blackpool

Two dodgy traders got their cummuppence this week when they admitted breaching gambling laws.  Blackpool Trading Standards officers raided their hoopla stall and confiscated equipment.

Lancaster University tested the equipment which showed that the odds of winning were 2,622 to 1 against.

The pair received suspended prison sentences.

Its good to see positive action taking place to clean up Blackpool’s image.  There really is a good buzz about the place at the moment.

The vast majority of stalls, of course, are a bit of fun but we always advice to keep your wits about you and don’t be spending more than you should or can afford.  Apparently a doctor got stung with their scam to the tune of  £1200

We can’t wait for it to hit the shops and won’t be getting much work done in the office when it does!

Beauty & the Beast – at the Grand Theatre this May

beauty and the beastDisney’s first foray into theatrical production became Broadway’s sixth longest running show of all time. Beauty and the Beast is a worldwide stage success, which launched Disney’s theatrical division and led to the recreation of other beloved Disney films on stage.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is the musical stage adaptation of the company’s hit animated feature from 1991, featuring Alan Menken’s Academy Award-winning score, songs by the late Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (including the Academy Award-winning title song and the showstopping Be Our Guest), plus songs written especially for the stage by Alan Menken and Tim Rice (including If I Can’t Love Her and A Change In Me). The book is by Linda Woolverton, author of the original screenplay.

The show originally opened on April 18, 1994 at the Palace Theatre on Broadway and transferred to London’s Dominion Theatre from May 1997 to December 1999. It has toured both the United States and the UK and will now be presented by Blackpool & Fylde Light Opera Company.
